New York City is introducing bike share in order to give New Yorkers more options for getting around the city. Did you know that forty percent of all trips in New York are less than one mile and sixty-seven percent of all trips are less than three miles? Bike share will make these trips cheap, easy, efficient and fast. The system will also give New Yorkers access to a bike when they want one, without having to worry about storage or maintenance.
New York City’s bike share program will be operated and funded by Alta Bicycle Share, a private company. No taxpayer money will be used for the system and the City will even share the profits.
Even better- Bike Share will also create more than 200 new jobs in the New York City, include operating staff like mechanics and monitors.
