Throughout the fall, NYC DOT and Alta Bicycle Share will be teaming up to present bike share demonstrations throughout the city. Bike share demonstrations are opportunities for New Yorkers to see how bike share will work. Stop by any demonstration to test ride a bike, check out the bike share equipment, ask questions and give feedback about the program.

Bike Share Demonstration: Manhattan Bridge Archway, DUMBO

Join us this Saturday, September 17! Come try out the bike share bikes in Manhattan Bridge Archway, one of Brooklyn’s newest iconic spaces. The archway, which was returned to the public in 2009 after being used for DOT storage for 17 years, has hosted the Brooklyn Flea, DUMBO Fight Night, and Royal Wedding viewing party. Ride the bikes around DUMBO or just stay within the car-free Archway.
Try out the bikes then swing by the Brooklyn Local, a urban-foodie fundraising event for City Harvest down the road at the Tobacco Warehouse!
The event will be cosponsored by DUMBO Business Improvement District and will take place from 12-4 pm.

Bike Share Demonstration: Bowling Green

Come visit NYC DOT and Alta Bicycle Share at Bowling Green at the foot of Broadway at Battery Place in Manhattan. Test out the city’s newest transportation option on your lunch break! Try out the bikes and learn more about the upcoming bike share program. The bikes will be directly in front of the National Museum of the American Indian, on the south end of the park near the subway entrance.
The demo is co-sponsored by Council Member Margaret Chin.

Bike Share Demonstration: DeKalb Market

Bike, shop, and eat at Brooklyn newest market! Stop by the DeKalb Market – a collection of shops and restaurants located in jewel-box shipping containers on a construction site at Flatbush and Willoughby. Opened in July 2011, the DeKalb Market is in operation seven days a week and provides New Yorkers with artisanal foods, local clothing designs, art galleries and an operating farm.
We’ll be on-site from 12-4 pm showing off the bikes and talking about the bike share system. We’ll be set up in Courtyard D, on the Willoughby end of the market.

Test bike share out at Grand Army Plaza! Grab some local produce at Brooklyn’s largest farmer’s market and test ride the bikes along Prospect Park West. Bikes will be located on the top of Prospect Park West, just around the corner from Grand Army Plaza.

Bike Share Demonstration: Atlantic Antic

On Sunday, October 2, come celebrate Brooklyn with at least 500,000 of your closest friends! The Atlantic Antic, a one-mile long street festival with local bands, local food and vendors galore is equipped with bike share for its 37th year.
A bike share demo station will be set up from 12-6 pm at the corner of Atlantic Avenue and Nevins Street, and friendly staff from NYC DOT and Alta Bicycle Share will be available to answer your questions and help you check out the bikes.

Bike Share Demonstration: Restoration Rocks Music Festival

Spend a bucolic day at the Upper East Side’s lovely St. Catherine’s Park, located at 68th Street and First Avenue, with its iconic elephant sprinklers. Check out the bikes, ask our staff questions, and then grab a bit to eat on 1st Avenue. Bikes will be located on the north side of the park on 68th Street.

Come ride the bikes with the coolest students in Brooklyn! Take advantage of the Bedford Avenue bike lane to test ride the bikes. Afterward you can swing by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden or Prospect Park, both only a couple blocks away. Bikes will be located at the main entrance to the College at 1650 Bedford Avenue, at the corner of Crown Street.

Come visits Williamsburg’s greatest market! Browse through racks of trendy clothes, vintage furniture, and local crafts at the Brooklyn Flea by Williamsburg’s East River. Then test out the bikes, visit the river and wave to Manhattan, and then come back to tell our attentive staff your thoughts on bike share. Bikes will be located on the North 7th side of the market between Kent Avenue and the East River.

Afterwards, take a tour of the “tree nursery,” which provides shade while incubating street trees that will eventually be planted in the neighborhood. Spend the day on the Upper West Side! Swing by the farmers market on Columbus Avenue and 78th, then check out the Greenflea, one of New York’s oldest open air markets inside the schoolyard on Columbus and 76th. After picking up vintage finds and new designs you and test out our fantastic new bikes! Bikes will be located on the sidewalk on the west side of Columbus Avenue just south of 76th Street.
