The New York City Council passed Intro 1457-A, a bill to allows cyclists to follow "Leading Pedestrian Signals" or LPI. LPIs are when a walk signal starts before showing a green light to car traffic. These signals improve pedestrian traffic by allowing pedestrians to cross before turning vehicles. This change makes cyclists more visible in the intersections, where most crashes occur.
The bill, drafted by Carlos Menchaca, goes into effect December 20th.
