Winter 2011: Bike Share Open Houses

This winter, NYC DOT and Alta Bicycle Share are bringing bike share indoors! Bike share Open Houses will give New Yorkers the opportunity to learn about the system, check out the bikes, ask questions and give feedback during the cold-weather months.

Select Open Houses will also include safety presentations, t-shirt giveaways, and free bike safety equipment.

Bike Share Open House: Red Lantern

Thursday, November 17th, 2011, 5:00 pm–8:00 pm

Take a break from the cold and warm up at Fort Greene’s newest bike shop/coffee shop/bar, Red Lantern at 345 Myrtle Avenue between Carlton Avenue and Adelphi Street in Brooklyn. DOT staff will be on hand from 5 – 8 pm on Thursday, November 17 to show off the bike share bikes in person. Stop in to ask questions, learn more and pick up free bike giveaways.

Bike Share Open House: Staten Island Ferry: Whitehall Terminal

Monday, November 21st, 2011, 4:00 pm–7:00 pm

Before hopping on the famed Staten Island Ferry, check out the bike share bikes at Whitehall Terminal, located at 4 South Street in Manhattan. DOT staff will be set up at the top of the escalator and to the left from 4 – 7 pm on Monday, November 21. Learn a little about New York City’s newest transportation option while you wait!

In cooperation with Council Member Margaret ChinCouncil Member Debi Rose, and the Lower Manhattan Construction Command Center.

Bike Share Open House: Center for Architecture

Thursday, December 8th, 2011, 6:30 pm–8:00 pm

Come to the Center for Architecture, New York City’s hub for those interested in the sustainable built environment, and learn how taking in New York’s iconic architecture will soon be easier than ever. Located at 536 LaGuardia Place between West 3rd Street and Bleecker Street in Manhattan, CFA puts on a vast array of exhibitions, programs, and special events. Visit DOT and Alta staff from 6:30 – 8 pm on Thursday, December 8 to see the bike share bikes in person. Stop in to ask questions, learn more and pick up free bike giveaways!

In cooperation with the Center for ArchitectureManhattan Community Board 2, the Village Alliance, and Council Member Margaret Chin.

Food and refreshments provided by NYU Wagner’s Urban Planning Students Association and the Wagner Transportation Association.
