New York City Department of Transportation has released a Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) that would create a new demonstration project for dockless bike share in the Rockaways. This demonstration project is modeled after the Staten Island RFEI that was released earlier this year. Last summer, the City launched the dockless bike share pilot in three areas in the city: the Rockaways, Central Bronx and the North Shore of Staten Island. The pilot program is determining the best way of expanding bike share to neighborhoods outside of the Citi Bike service area. The pilot will continue to analyze sidewalk clearance needs, bike parking demands and community concerns. In addition, the DOT will evaluate dockless bike share operators' compliance with data accessibility and user privacy. The pilot will also evaluate the safety, availability and durability of the bikes themselves.
